Wafangdian Longmentang International Hot Springs Resort, Liaoning - China
A new resort village north of Dalian in a rural area famous for its therapeutic hot springs. The site is bounded by mountains to the north and a curved river to the south. The project consists of a range of housing options (apartments, townhouses, villas), a village centre with hotel and retail outlets, hot springs resort, country club and golf course, ski runs, winery and cultural museum.
Our approach was to preserve as much of the natural environment as possible with the river edge and the mountainous areas kept as green spaces. The commercial activities are located around the village with the residential areas decreasing in density as they move away from the centre.
Pedestrian and cycle paths are separated from roads and link residential areas with all activities. Particular attention was given to maximizing solar access to residential spaces and maintaining a village scale to the entire development.
